There was a large turnout for the open day on saturday.

It has been a busy year in the Science Department. Here is a brief look at students at work.

Year 10 students studying  NCEA level science this year have made a number of 5 minute tutorials that cover aspects of their course. Have a look at them. The first video deals with acids and bases.

The second video covers motion and distance time graphs. Do you find these tutorials useful. Why don’t you pick a topic with some friends and make your own video.

A group of Y10 students in Shelley’s class delivering information on the formation and eruptions of volcanoes with specific reference to those in New Zealand. It was an outstanding piece of filming, editing and fabulous scientific content (not to mention entertaining! :-)

The task:

Present a demonstration to fellow students outlining why ionic compounds conduct electricity when molten or in aqueous solution.

Preparation time:

1 lesson to research material and plan roles to be undertaken by group….. cameras…. action….. roll…. take 1.

This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your learning…….it also shows me where I need to do better. Sodium ions don’t get discharged from aqueous solution…..apologies for any confusion I may have caused here!
