The task:
Present a demonstration to fellow students outlining why ionic compounds conduct electricity when molten or in aqueous solution.
Preparation time:
1 lesson to research material and plan roles to be undertaken by group….. cameras…. action….. roll…. take 1.
This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your learning…….it also shows me where I need to do better. Sodium ions don’t get discharged from aqueous solution…..apologies for any confusion I may have caused here!
Oops, Na+ ions don’t got to the negative electrode… my bad!
Other than that i think the use of song and paper hats gave group one ‘qualities’ that no one else had…
As for the other groups who were more scientifically correct… The explanations were well done, espescially the ‘oscar’ winning group. It’d be an improvemet though if they weren’t reading off scripts, and incorporated some humour.
Paper hats for the win! XD
Hi Bryce,
Thanks for logging on and leaving a comment. Some feedback on you group’s highly commendable effort.
Your video had a very high entertainment value. I liked the weird humour around The Dudes and the whole performance was well paced with touches of creativity.
I appreciated the section where you presented theoretical material on the board and interacted confidently with the class. It showed a sound grasp of the chemical concepts underlying the presentation. This will stand you in good stead when you practice written responses to questions from NCEA papers.
I liked the group’s confidence in “taking chances” and willingness to “give it a go” There will be other opportunities to mix artistic talent with chemistry knowledge and I hope to see the same level of commitment again.
It was a genuinely tough choice between the two groups
